Right now ive been studying the first letter of paul to timothy. Paul was speaking to his spiritual son in timothy and telling him how to run the church. This is one of our formost leaders of the faith in paul and his utmost godly wisdom to his apprentice. As a young man of faith, i read this as if paul was speaking to me, as there are many references to Timothys youth, putting myself in the receptive position of timothy. And i have gathered an enormous amount of wisdom from it.
1Timothy 1:15-17 “The saying is worthy and full of acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. And i am the foremost of sinners. But i received mercy for this reason in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience for an example to those who were to believe in him for Eternal life. To the king of ages, immortal invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen”
Christ Jesus came intot he world to save sinners, and no matter how many sins you commit it does not matter. Paul is explaining that he was one of the worst sinners, with a humble heart he is expressing the great mercy and great salvation of God in Christ Jesus that even the worst of sinners can become through Christ the best of saints. In paul the magnitute of Christs ability to save is shown, paul is informing timothy and all who read that noone is out of the range of Gods Salvation through Christ Jesus.
1Timothy 1:19 “Holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting conscience, certain persons have made a shipwreck of their faith.”
This to me is saying not only to hold faith but hold a good conscience, in that consciense allows us to upkeep our integrity and godliness thus upkeep our faith. If we reject conscience, we reject the implanted device of holiness that God has implanted in us, which makes it hard to keep up the faith, thus making our faith shipwrecked.
1 Timothy 2:1 “First of all then, i urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for ALL men.”
This is a very profound and strait from Gods own heart type of statement. That we should as Children of God pray for, intercede for and be thankful for ALL people, not only those who we like, or those who we choose, but all men. Whether we see salvation as possible or not, whether sinner or saint. That first of ALL, we must pray for, supplicate intercede and be thankful for ALL people.
1 Timothy 3:16 “Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of our religion. He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached amoung the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.”
In every way, the coming of Christ was and is a mystery to us. The great vindication, salvation and glory of God. We must remember that Christ is a mystery to those who are unsaved, and we are the unveilers, unveiling the great glory of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. And the pure greatness of our Gospel.
1 Timothy 4:8,10 ”For while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. For to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the savior of all men, especially of those who believe.”
This had a great impact on me. Godliness is not only our job on earth, it is our joy, it is the essance of our God and Lord Jesus, we should follow godliness in this life, as we will live in godliness for all eternity. We strive and toil in this life, because our hope and faith is set on Jesus Christ, our light our way and our salvation.
1 Timothy 4:12,15 “Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in Speech, and conduct, in love, in faith in purity. Practice these duties, devote yourself to them, so that all may see your progress.
To me this is the biggest thing i stuied in Timothy. Because i take it very much to heart as of my youth, and how i should approach everything as a youth as a person who should set an example to all believers. And that i should remain faithful and serving, in all things, that they may see my progress.
